People are urged to take precautionary measures as Category 2 Tropical Cyclone Urmil is expected to pass southeast of Fiji by tomorrow afternoon.

The Nadi Weather Office says they expect rain and strong winds to affect the country until tomorrow afternoon.

They say the system is quite far, but there is an extension of cloud bands with strong winds over Fiji.

They also say that as we go into tomorrow, the intensity of rain and wind will gradually ease.

The Weather Office stresses that TC Urmil will not directly affect Fiji.

In case of emergencies, the public can contact the relevant authorities by dialling 917 for Police, 910 for the National Fire Authority Fiji, and 911 for ambulance services.

At 6 this morning, the centre of TC Urmil was located about 520km southwest of Nadi.

They say it is tracking southeastward and is moving at a faster pace, currently at about 30 km/hr.

The Weather Office strongly urges the public to continue following official weather warnings and advisories.

A Flash Flood Warning is now in force for flood prone areas adjacent to and downstream of Nakauvadra River in Rakiraki, Naseyani at Yaqara River, Nasivi and Tavua Town bridge.

A Flood Alert is in force for flood plains of Ba River.

The Weather Office says a Heavy Rain Warning also remains in force for Fiji.

Surface flooding may occur on streets in urban areas with poor drainage, along with wet roads and reduced visibility during heavy downpours, increasing the risk of road accidents.
