Hearing for Kamikamica's stay application set for March 25th

Member of Parliament Manoa Kamikamica

The hearing date for Member of Parliament, Manoa Kamikamica’s permanent stay application has been set for March 25th, 2026.

Kamikamica's counsel, Wylie Clarke informed Suva High Court Justice Siainiu Fa'alogo Bull that former Deputy Prime Minister, Professor Biman Prasad’s case, which has an identical issue, is before Justice Dane Tuiqereqere.

Clarke says it is entirely within the court's discretion to continue the matter before Justice Bull, or proceed as the court sees fit, as they are ready to set down a timetable.

Justice Bull asked him if Professor Prasad was also his client.

Clarke clarified that Professor Prasad is not his client; however, the issue is the same, relating to the validity of the Acting FICAC Commissioner’s appointment.

He says two memorandums were filed yesterday, and further affidavits will also be filed.

The State has been given 4 weeks to respond to the memorandums, keeping in mind about the legal vacation.

The matter will be called on the 5th of February next year for mention.

The defence will call two witnesses in this matter.

Meanwhile, Kamikamica is charged with one count of perjury and one count of giving false information to a public servant. It is alleged that between 1st December 2024 and 31st March 2025 in Suva, Kamikamica knowingly made a false statement under oath, claiming that he had nothing to do with the appointment of the FICAC Commissioner. It is alleged that Kamikamica provided the same false information to the Commissioner of Inquiry.
