Traffic conditions are expected to improve along the Suva–Nausori, Lami–Suva and Nadi–Lautoka corridor, with plans underway to reduce travel time by up to 50 percent as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to ease congestion on these busy routes.
While speaking in Parliament, Assistant Minister for Roads and Infrastructure, Naisa Tuinaceva highlighted that what we are witnessing now is traffic demand exceeds road capacity.
Tuinaceva says this results in slower speed, longer trip time and an increase in regular queuing.

He says Minister Ro Filipe Tuisawau has already explained the comphrensive plan which includes the $30 million Rewa/Vutia road and bridge construction starting in May, following design and dredging preparations and in the Western Division, a pragmatic strategy stabilised conditions through routine maintenance, and before ramping up renewals, works continue across Rakiraki, Lautoka, Nadi, Korotale, Malake Landing, Volivoli Circular Road, Ellington Wharf, Vuda Point, Lautoka Hospital and etc.
Tuinaceva further says the government is already implementing the fifth phase of its traffic improvement plan in the Central Division.
The Assistant Minister adds that initial works have already reduced travel time by between 15 and 25 minutes on some of the major routes.
While talking about the Constitution, Tuinaceva says there is no constitutional crisis in Fiji and in fact what we have is a constitutional rejection.
He says the 2013 Constitution must evolve to reflect the true aspiration of our people.
Tuinaceva says this Government has begun the process of reviewing the Constitution so that it reflects the lived realities of our nation and this process is not about division.
The Assistant Minister says also says that about 40 percent of boat at Suva Harbour have been scuttled, scrapped or restored.
