Strenthening disaster resilience and sustainable livelihood initiatives across education, science, technology, and innovation, gender empowerment, and disaster risk reduction were the agendas during Governments meeting with UNEASCO.

This was shared by the Minister for Foreign Affairs and External Trade, Sakiasi Ditoka,

Ditoka, received a courtesy visit from the Director of the Regional Office and UNESCO Representative to the Pacific,  Sardar Umar Alam, at the Ministry’s headquarters in Suva.

Ditoka acknowledged UNESCO’s ongoing partnership, particularly its support in strengthening disaster resilience and sustainable livelihood initiatives across education, science, technology and innovation, gender empowerment, and disaster risk reduction.

He says Fiji’s commitment to advancing progress in these priority areas, noting that UNESCO continues to be a key partner in mobilising resources and providing technical assistance to promote sustainable development, democracy, and peace in Fiji and the broader Pacific region.

The meeting concluded on a positive note, with both parties expressing confidence in the continued strengthening of Fiji–UNESCO relations and their shared commitment to advancing sustainable development through education, science, culture, communication, and information.

The UNESCO Regional Office for the Pacific States has supported sustainable development in the region for more than 40 years through its various programmes.
