The subcommittee of the Great Council of Chiefs tasked with critical portfolios, including education and cultural revitalisation, community resilience, and stakeholder engagement, will update the members of the GCC on the findings tomorrow.
The GCC says that this two-day forum reflects the enduring role of the GCC as a custodian of cultural heritage, traditional authority, and community values within Fiji’s national landscape.
They say last year’s forum saw expanded dialogue on strengthening resilience at the village level, with chiefs encouraging communities to target development funds to build long-term social and economic strength.
The GCC Chairperson and provincial delegates will continue the tradition of open dialogue rooted in customary values.
They will focus on achievements and future directives that uphold the Council’s mandate to preserve indigenous heritage, strengthen community wellbeing, and contribute constructively to national development.
Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula emphasised enhanced cooperation between the Council, church leaders, and stakeholders to address rising social challenges, including the impact of illicit drugs in communities. This signals an expanding role beyond traditional cultural matters.
The meeting will start tomorrow at 9am at the GCC Complex, Nasese.
