The Great Council of Chiefs does not want the 2013 Constitution to remain in place.
Speaking in the iTaukei language after the meeting, the GCC Chairman Ratu Viliame Seruvakula says members of the GCC have agreed on the need for the Constitution to be changed or to amend old laws from the colonial period, which stopped the iTaukei people from developing.
Ratu Viliame says this also includes other laws that were implemented by the previous government, and it is clear why they were implemented.
He says the GCC also used this meeting to call for strengthened protection of iTaukei land, culture, and traditional governance systems.
