Fiji Airways flight FJ914 from Sydney to Nadi had to be diverted to Tonga as a precautionary measure due to adverse weather conditions.
Fiji Airways says the decision to divert the aircraft was made in line with the airline’s strict safety protocols, ensuring the continued safety of all passengers and crew.
The aircraft is enroute to Tonga, where it is expected to land safely before continuing its journey to Nadi once conditions allow.
Meanwhile FijiLink has cancelled all domestic flights scheduled for today.
Some domestic flights were affected this morning as passengers in a FijiLink flight experienced bad turbulence while landing at Nadi International Airport.
The flight landed safely however the passengers had to remain in the plane for some time as ground operations were suspended on the tarmac due to heavy rain and lightning.
Fiji Airways and Fiji Link has advised people that due to the current weather conditions associated with Tropical Cyclone Vaianu, a number of flights to and from Fiji on Fiji Airways may be disrupted due to adverse weather conditions.
