The Fijian Flying Circus has returned home after a transformative tour of Aotearoa New Zealand, which featured sold-out shows and a strong connection with thousands of audience members.
From the intimate theatres of Wellington to a headline appearance in Waikato, the troupe’s journey marked a magical start to 2026 for the young Fijian artists, earning a strong response from the 17th to 22nd February in Wellington and attracting thousands on the 27th and 28th February to experience their distinctive blend of Fijian storytelling and circus arts.
Director of VOU and producer of the Fijian Flying Circus, Sachiko Soro says the success of the tour is not determined solely by the number of tickets sold, but by how many people the group can share joy and space with.
She says to see Fijian artists sell out shows in Wellington and share their stories with thousands in Hamilton was truly magical.
She adds that this tour is about more than just a performance; it is about showing young people that their heritage, their worldview, the way they carry this special connection, and their hard work have a place on the world stage.
Director of the Hamilton Arts Festival, Geoff Turkington says the Fijian Flying Circus was the heartbeat of the festival this year.
He says their energy is infectious, and their technical skill is world-class.
He says they did not just perform; they connected with the audience in a way that felt deeply personal and culturally significant.
The Waikato Times also praised the performance, noting that as audience members left the venue, their smiles were broad.
The troupe has now returned home to prepare for the next phase of its international journey.
The Fijian Flying Circus is set to travel to New Caledonia for an intensive tour from the 11th April to 31st May, where they will share their Bula spirit with French-speaking audiences throughout the seven-week season.
