Pranita Venkatesh, a member of the Fijian diaspora, has been unanimously selected and sworn in as Mayor of San Carlos City Council, in California, United States.

The Fiji Trade Commission in North America says Venkatesh has stepped into this leadership role with grace, strength, and community support.

They say her achievement sends a powerful message that we can have a seat at the table.

The Commission says her leadership reflects the vibrant diversity in the city of San Carlos, and shows what is possible when one aims high and steps forward to serve.

They say as a Fiji diaspora member in the United States, her journey to public office resonates far beyond city boundaries and it is a moment of immense pride for Fijians everywhere, both at home and across the diaspora.

The Commission says her appointment as Mayor stands as a powerful message that Fijians can, and do contribute meaningfully at the highest levels of civic life and it demonstrates that our voices belong in decision-making spaces, and that representation matters, not only for visibility, but for shaping inclusive and forward-looking communities.

They further say that for Fiji, this milestone reinforces the impact of our people abroad who are engaged, accomplished, and committed to service.

The Commission adds that for young Fijians especially, Mayor Venkatesh’s story sends a clear message that leadership is within reach.
