As the world marks International Women's Day, the Republic of Fiji Navy is recognising the contribution of women serving in uniform and their growing role in strengthening the country’s maritime security.
Fiji Navy says when it first welcomed women into its ranks in 2018, there were only around 20 pioneers who stepped forward with courage, determination and a desire to serve their country.
Today, that number has grown to more than 80 women, reflecting the expanding role women play in safeguarding Fiji’s maritime domain.
It says that from operations at sea to vital roles ashore, women now serve across many branches of the organisation, bringing professionalism, resilience, compassion and leadership to their work.
It adds that many women have already stepped into leadership positions, helping guide teams and inspiring the next generation of young women who aspire to serve their nation.
According to the Fiji Navy, the journey has not just been about increasing numbers but also about breaking barriers, building confidence and proving that service, leadership and courage know no gender.
It says that behind every uniform is a story of dedication, sacrifice and pride, with women continuing to demonstrate that strength can be both powerful and compassionate.
The organisation says diversity strengthens the force and the women of the Navy continue to contribute significantly to its mission.
The Fiji Navy says it is proud of every woman who wears the uniform and contributes to our mission, and extended its gratitude to the women of the Navy, saying their service continues to inspire others.
