Fiji Men’s 7s face high expectations as Perth 7s begin tomorrow

Fiji Men’s 7s face high expectations as Perth 7s begin tomorrow

A lot of pressure is on the Fiji Men's National 7s team heading into the Perth Sevens this weekend, with head coach Osea Kolinisau acknowledging the expectations that come with leading the overall standings on the SVNS Series.

The Fiji men and women will both face tough pool opposition as the competition resumes in Perth, with the men drawn alongside Argentina, Spain and South Africa, while the women will take on the USA, New Zealand and Japan.

Kolinisau says competition across the series continues to intensify, and maintaining consistency will be key for his side as current series leaders.

The defending Singapore 7s winner, are aiming to improve their starts after being forced to come from behind in several crucial matches in Singapore, including their final pool game against South Africa, the semi-final against New Zealand and the Cup final against France.

Kolinisau says fighting back from deficits is not part of the team’s preferred game plan, with a strong start and early control of matches identified as a major focus for this weekend.

Fiji is currently leading the overall standings with 52 points, ahead of New Zealand on 48, while South Africa and France are tied on 46 points.

A top-four finish in Perth will help Fiji maintain their position at the top of the table.

The Fiji men will face Argentina at 4.20pm tomorrow, Spain at 7.36pm and South Africa at 10.52pm.

The cup semi-finals are scheduled to begin at 4.57pm on Sunday, with the cup final set for 9.04pm.
