Cervical cancer is one of the cancers that can be eliminated, and January is the awareness month, making it important for women to present themselves for screening.
In an interview with fijivillage News, Fiji Cancer Society CEO Belinda Chan urges sexually active women to attend clinics to get tested and, if results are normal, to be tested again after five years.
Chan says if tested positive women are treated and given medication.
The CEO says the common symptom is irregular bleeding.
She says that their Pap smear screenings will conclude tomorrow at their clinic located at 233 Waimanu Road.
Chan says they have been inundated with women and did not expect such a high turnout.
The CEO also highlights that 90 percent of girls between the ages of 9 and 14 are eligible for the HPV vaccination, which is one of the key preventive measures for cervical cancer.
She urges parents and guardians to allow their daughters to receive the vaccine.
Chan says Human Papillomavirus (HPV) testing is currently being rolled out in Labasa, Savusavu and Taveuni.

Chan adds that they are working with their team in the Western Division to determine when they can set up clinics there as well.
