Cultural exchange and mutual respect remain at the heart of Fiji and China's enduring partnership.
Minister for Multi-Ethnic Affairs Charan Jeath Singh says the relationship between Fiji and China is a long-standing and valued partnership based on mutual respect, friendship, and cooperation.
Speaking during Chinese New Year celebrations, Singh reaffirmed Fiji’s strong and enduring partnership with the People’s Republic of China, highlighting its growth across a wide range of sectors.
He says the two countries have strengthened ties not only at the government level but also among their peoples through close collaboration over the years.
Singh highlighted cultural and heritage cooperation as a key pillar of the relationship, noting that the 2014 bilateral Memorandum of Understanding has enabled deeper engagement between cultural practitioners from both countries.
Through this partnership, he says, China has supported Fiji’s cultural sector by facilitating exchanges with Chinese experts and providing opportunities for Fijian artists and artisans to engage with their counterparts in China.
The Minister also identified education as a major area of cooperation, pointing to the benefits of scholarships, academic exchanges, and skills development programs for Fijians.
He acknowledged China’s global economic influence and its contribution to Fiji’s development through trade, tourism, and investment, which he says has supported job creation and economic growth.
Singh reaffirmed the Coalition Government’s commitment to promoting intercultural dialogue and protecting the cultural heritage of all communities in Fiji.
He welcomed continued collaboration between the China Cultural Centre in Fiji and the Ministry of Multi-Ethnic Affairs, Culture, Heritage and Arts.
He adds that such partnerships will further enrich Fiji’s cultural landscape and strengthen connections across communities and generations.
