A group of young enthusiastic Fijian aerobic gymnastic athletes are currently in Melbourne for the Oceania Gymnastics Union AER Continental Camp, which is being held in Bendigo, Australia.

Gymnastics Federation of Fiji Board Director and Flight Club Manager, Maria Alvarado says the camp focuses on athletes competing in Levels 9 and 10 of the Australian Levels Program, as well as Youth, Junior and Senior International divisions.

Representing Fiji are Robyn Eastgate, Lauren Pilla, Ayden Akbar, Kesaia Sivo, Siege de Luzuriaga and Jemesa Lau. They are attending the camp under Coach Josiemaraya Ryland.

Alvarado says the athletes were selected based on recommendations from Coach Deborah Greenbaum after her development visits to Fiji between 2024 and 2025, where she identified athletes with strong potential for international competition.

The athletes are being trained by a world-class coaching team that includes Oceania Technical Director for Aerobic Gymnastics and twelve-time Australian Champion Deborah Greenbaum, French National Coach Matteo Guerrini, Gymnastics NSW Aerobic Head Coach Balasz Farkas, and four-time World Champion Antonio Papazov of Bulgaria.

The Gymnastics Federation of Fiji says they are grateful to the Oceania Gymnastics Union for providing this opportunity, which will help athletes strengthen their skills, gain international exposure and prepare for future competitions.

They add that the tournament also aims to recognise the hard work and dedication of the athletes, and to highlight the growth of aerobic gymnastics in Fiji.

The camp is currently underway in Australia and will conclude tomorrow.
