FCCC reminds businesses to trade fairly during festive season

The Fijian Competition and Consumer Commission is calling for fairness, integrity and vigilance during the festive season.
In her Christmas message, FCCC Chief Executive Officer, Senikavika Jiuta says that as families across the islands come together to celebrate, the season serves as a reminder of the importance of kindness, generosity and looking out for one another, adding that these values also guide the FCCC’s work in protecting consumers and ensuring a fair marketplace.
With increased shopping, travel and end-of-year spending, she is reminding traders to conduct their businesses fairly, honestly and within the law.
Jiuta says there is no place for unjust pricing, misleading promotions or unethical practices during a time meant for goodwill and celebration, adding that the FCCC will continue to act where necessary to protect the interests of the public.
She is also urging consumers to remain alert while enjoying the festive season, advising them to check prices, keep receipts and report any unfair or suspicious practices.
Looking ahead to the New Year, Jiuta expressed confidence and acknowledged the hard work and professionalism of FCCC staff nationwide, including those stationed at ports and wharves, enforcement officers working night shifts, and teams carrying out awareness activities across the country.
She also acknowledged the commitment of staff who continued to serve the public during weekends and challenging periods, saying their efforts have not gone unnoticed.
On behalf of the FCCC vuvale, Jiuta is wishing all Fijians a joyful Christmas and a safe, healthy and prosperous New Year.
