Drones detected near Naboro Corrections Complex, Corrections issues warning

Following the consistent and concerning detection of unauthorized drone activity in the vicinity of the Naboro Complex in recent weeks, the Fiji Corrections Service has stressed that the flying, operating, or use of drones within and around all Correctional Areas of Operation is strictly prohibited with immediate effect.
They says this prohibition applies to all Corrections facilities, including Divisional Headquarters, all Correctional Institutions, Officers’ Quarters, and any surrounding areas that may allow aerial devices to capture images, videos, or surveillance of FCS property, personnel, or inmates.
The Corrections Service says such actions pose a significant threat to security of inmates, safety of members of the public as well as the unlawful surveillance of secure facilities.
They warn that any individual or group found to be operating drones in breach of this prohibition will face immediate enforcement action.
Corrections Service says Corrections officers are empowered under Section 9(1)(f) of the Corrections Act 2006 to arrest, without warrant, any person suspected of committing an offence that threatens the security and good order of correctional facilities.
They are strongly urging people to comply with this directive and to refrain from engaging in any drone-related activities near correctional premises.
The Corrections Service is also calling on the public to report any suspicious drone activity to the nearest Correctional facility or law enforcement authorities.
