The case file relating to the death of Richard Mock has been assessed and returned to Police with recommendations by the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
This has been confirmed to fijivillage News today by Acting Director of Public Prosecutions Nancy Tikoisuva, who says that the file, which was submitted last year for independent review and the sanctioning of charges, has now undergone full assessment.
When contacted, Richard's mother, Seraphine Mock, has also confirmed to fijivillage News that she has been contacted by police, saying that the file is now back with them.
The case centres on allegations that Mock died while in Police custody in February last year.
It is further alleged that a group of officers based at Namaka Police Station later disposed of his body in the Nasau area of Nadi after realising he was dead.
Police Commissioner Rusiate Tudravu had stated in May that investigators is working extensively on the case, including the transcription of Video Recorded Interviews involving 13 officers alleged to be connected to the incident.
Tudravu said at the time that the process was necessary to ensure a thorough investigation, proper summarisation of evidence and a comprehensive submission to the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.
The matter now remains with Police as they consider the recommendations provided by the DPP regarding the next course of action.
