Consultations on State Lands Act and Land Use Act to begin on January 12

The Ministry of Lands and Mineral Resources, in partnership with Fiji Law Reform, has announced the final public consultations for the review of the State Lands Act 1945 and the Land Use Act 2010.

Both consultations will take place in Suva on January 12, at the Suva Civic Centre Lower Auditorium.

The State Lands Act 1945 session is scheduled from 10am to 12pm, followed by the Land Use Act 2010 session from 1pm to 3pm.

The Ministry is encouraging landowners, community members, and stakeholders to attend and share their views to help strengthen Fiji’s land management system, promote transparency, and ensure fair and sustainable practices.

They have highlighted that written submissions on the State Lands Act review can also be sent via email to paula.cirikiyasawa@lands.gov.fj, with copies to fijilawreform@gmail.com and lia.tavola@lands.gov.fj. 

Submissions can also be hand-delivered to the Ministry headquarters at the iTaukei Trust Fund Building Complex in Nasese, or posted to P.O. Box 2222, Government Buildings, Suva.

The deadline for submissions is January 15 at 4pm.

Permanent Secretary Paula Cirikiyasawa has emphasised the importance of public participation, saying, “Do not miss this opportunity to have a say.”

He adds that they look forward to hearing everyone’s views and recommendations as they work together to build a more transparent, fair, and sustainable land management system for all Fijians.
