Following concerns raised by residents of Nabitu in Sigatoka, the Fiji Roads Authority has confirmed that construction on the Mavua Bridge will resume this month.
Nabitu Advisory Councillor Abhay Sharma says the construction has been on hold for the past five months.
Sharma says this has significantly affected residents in about five villages, who face difficulties transporting their produce to the market, especially during rainy weather.
He says school students have also faced difficulties, as they are unable to attend school during heavy rain due to flooding.
In response to questions from fijivillage News, the FRA says construction works on the Mavua Bridge were being carried out by its maintenance contractor, but were temporarily halted due to contractual obligation issues.
FRA says construction is scheduled to resume this month, with tentative completion expected by March 2026.
The Authority adds that the total cost of the project cannot be confirmed at this stage, as work is still ongoing.
