Concerns are being raised over the increasing number of hit-and-run cases, with Acting Deputy Police Commissioner Aporosa Lutunauga urging the public and drivers to take greater responsibility for road safety.
Lutunauga says police have registered several hit-and-run incidents and continue to rely on the community to assist in identifying and locating vehicles involved.
He stressed that drivers involved in accidents should remain at the scene and allow police to carry out investigations.
When asked whether harsher penalties could help address the issue, Lutunauga says tougher penalties can act as a deterrent but emphasised that the main focus should be on driver behaviour.
