Christmas rush hits Suva as travellers and shoppers prepare for today

Suva has been busy with the Christmas rush as people do their last-minute shopping just hours before Christmas.

A carrier driver from Wainimakutu Village in Namosi, Ratu Peceli Qiokata, says he has made three trips to Namosi today to drop off passengers, due to the high number of people wanting to spend Christmas in the village.

Ratu Peceli says Christmas is a good time to spend with family, and for those living in the village, it is a special moment to spend time with relatives.

He is also urging drivers to always follow the rules and to be mindful of the lives of the people in their vehicles so they can arrive safely at their destinations.

Flying Fijians legend Pio Bosco Tikoisuva told fijivillage News that his plan for Christmas is to attend the vigil Mass at 7 this evening, and Christmas Mass at 8 tomorrow morning.

Bosco says he will be celebrating Christmas with his wife, children, and grandchildren at his residence in Muanikau.

The 78-year-old says Christmas is a time to celebrate with family, and in remembrance of the birth of our Saviour, we must first show this by going to church and acknowledging what God has done in our lives.

Meanwhile, Suva market vendor, Meena Kumar says as a vendor who only sells seasonal fruits such as mangoes, business has been slow compared to crops and other produce, but she is happy that she is able to earn something today.

Kumar is wishing everyone a Merry Christmas.
