Central Division reconnected to power grid, restoration works continue in Western Division

Energy Fiji Limited says all people in the Central Division are now connected to the main power grid following restoration work on the Wailoa–Cunningham transmission line.

EFL says a major fault on the 132kV transmission line between Wailoa Power Station and Cunningham Substation had significantly limited hydroelectric power supply to the Central Division.

Due to this, temporary power rationing had to be implemented.

EFL has acknowledged the cooperation of people who reduced electricity usage during this period and has apologised for the inconvenience caused by unplanned disruptions.

Despite this progress, EFL says many areas remain without power due to widespread damage, and teams continue to work systematically to restore supply safely.

They stress that safety remains the top priority, with every section of the network requiring physical inspection before power can be restored.

EFL says restoration works are being carried out based on national priorities, focusing first on major hospitals and health centres, followed by water and sewerage systems without backup power, central business districts and key commercial zones, and finally residential communities.

In the Western Division, teams have successfully repaired and re-energised several key 33kV transmission lines, including the Waqadra–Nawai–Momi, Vuda–Voivoi, Vuda–Naikabula, and Vuda–Rarawai circuits.

They say restoration of these lines has also enabled power along the Rarawai–Tavua–Volivoli corridor.

EFL says improved weather conditions yesterday allowed crews to speed up work on distribution lines, restoring electricity to many affected communities.

They add that all lines are being carefully inspected, with undamaged lines re-energised while faulty sections are isolated for repair.

Meanwhile, power supply has been restored in parts of Ba, Nadi, Lautoka, Tavua and Sigatoka.

The tentative timeline for today’s restoration includes the Namaka Feeder, Votualevu Feeder, Natadola, Nawai Feeder, Lavusa Feeder, Yanuca, Momi, Koronubu, Balevuto, Tavua Town and Volivoli.
