Britney Spears has been arrested in California on suspicion of driving under the influence.
The singer was taken into custody by the California Highway Patrol at about 9.30pm on Wedesnesday, and was released early Thursday morning.
She is scheduled to appear in Ventura County Superior Court on 4 May.
Spears appeared to delete her Instagram account.
The pop star, known for hits such as Toxic, Everytime, Womanizer and Baby One More Time, said in 2024 that she would not return to the music industry, although she had previously hinted at the possibility of performing live in the UK and Australia.
Spears spent 13 years under a conservatorship controlled by her father until it ended in 2021.
She later reflected on her life and career in her 2023 memoir The Woman in Me.
