Fijians are being warned to take extra care at sea following reports of the presence of the highly venomous Box Jellyfish in local waters.
The Ministry of Health, in collaboration with the Ministry of Fisheries, is investigating after several people sought medical assistance for breathing difficulties following exposure to the Box Jellyfish.
They say some cases were treated at the Ministry’s Hyperbaric Unit, raising concern among health officials.

They say the Box Jellyfish is known for its powerful venom, which can cause serious reactions.
Health officials are urging people to exercise caution, especially when swimming, fishing, or engaging in other marine activities.
They are also advising anyone who experiences symptoms such as difficulty breathing, severe pain, or unusual reactions after being at sea to seek immediate medical assistance at the nearest health facility.
