Australia has expressed support for moves to remove Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor from the royal line of succession following his recent arrest.
Prime Minister Anthony Albanese confirms in a letter to UK Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer that his government would back any proposal to remove Andrew from the line of succession.
Andrew, who remains eighth in line to the throne despite being stripped of his titles in October, was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office.
He was released under investigation 11 hours later and has strongly denied any wrongdoing.
In his letter, Albanese says the allegations are serious and that the law must take its full course through a full and proper investigation.
The UK government confirms it is considering whether further steps are required but says it would not comment further due to the ongoing police investigation.
Any removal from the line of succession would require an Act of Parliament and support from the 14 Commonwealth countries where King Charles III is head of state, including Australia, Canada, Jamaica and New Zealand.
Buckingham Palace has not publicly commented on the matter.
