The plea and trial dates for former Fijian Broadcasting Corporation CEO, Riyaz Sayed-Khaiyum, and Chief Financial Officer Vimlesh Sagar in the tender and procurement of a 3.0L Volkswagen Touareg valued at $207,470 has been set.
Sayed-Khaiyum was not present in court as he was attending a funeral, but he has instructed his lawyer, Davenesh Sharma, to enter an early not-guilty plea on his behalf.
Sagar’s lawyer, Ritesh Singh has requested the prosecution to provide the disclosures and evidence on which their case relies.
Singh says his client was only the financial controller and that the FBC Board had decided to sell the car.
FICAC lawyer, Josann Pene also apologized for not coming to court yesterday.
Sayed-Khaiyum and Sagar will take their on the 23rd of April.
The trial has been scheduled from the 2nd to the 6th of November.
Sayed-Khaiyum faces two charges of abuse of office and general dishonesty causing a loss, while Sagar is charged with one count of general dishonesty causing a loss.
