Bukayo Saka scored the only goal of the match in the ninth minute.
Brighton created several chances but were unable to convert them.
Meanwhile, in other matches, title rivals Manchester City were held 2–all by Nottingham Forest, Newcastle upset Manchester United 2–1, Chelsea demolished Aston Villa 4–nil, while West Ham United defeated Fulham 1–nil.
