Youth Advocates will be acting as bridge to educate communities, and assist the Consumer Council of Fiji about scams as the National Scams Awareness Week 2025 has been launched.
Consumer Council says these youth leaders will participate in advocacy sessions facilitating referrals for scam-related cases, ensuring they are highly active in the digital space and are uniquely positioned at the forefront of Fiji’s fight against scams.
NSAW 2025 will include wide range of advocacy and outreach activities across the country with scams training program for civil servants, ensuring that government officers are better equipped to identify, prevent, and respond to scams.
They say at the same time, a nationwide media campaign is underway, with key messages broadcast across radio, television, billboards, and social media, complemented by a TikTok competition to engage younger audiences in spreading anti-scam messages.
Consumer Council of Fiji Chief Executive Officer, Seema Shandil highlights the urgency of the campaign, emphasizing that scams are not just financial crimes as it attack the very trust that underpins our economy and society.
Shandil says the council is also having face-to-face community visits, focusing on rural and peri-urban areas, particularly focusing on schools, adding there will be workshops in western and northern divisions later this month, extending the campaign’s reach and ensuring nationwide participation.
The two-day National Scams Awareness Symposium on will commence tomorrow and on Tuesday at the Grand Pacific Hotel, featuring discussions and knowledge-sharing on scam trends, prevention strategies, and collaborative solutions, with contributions from local, regional, and international partners.
