Members of the Nasinu community and students came out in numbers to conduct a cleanup campaign in Kinoya, Caubati and Laucala Beach, organised by the Nasinu Town Council.

Assemblies Of God Head girl, Marry Grace Rokomulo says your environment shows who you are as a person, as a clean environment shows you are a clean person, have responsibility and a good character.

Rokomulo says if you see a small piece of rubbish, pick it up because a small piece goes a long way.

The Form seven student was out with other senior prefects from her school and form captains showing that they can make a difference in their community.

Minister for Housing and Local Government, Maciu Nalumisa says doing work like this is good because it teaches the community to work together in the fight to keep the environment clean.

Nalumisa says this is just the start and he hopes other municipalities will follow when questioned on if other towns will be implementing things like this.

He adds this initiative is good for Nasinu Town because it is one of the most densely populated areas in Fiji.

The cleanup campaign was held from 7am till 2pm.
