A Year 9 Dudley High School student who was bored and had nothing to do when schools were closed because of COVID-19 in 2020 decided to start a jewellry and painting business as a leisure activity and earn some income.

Vani Bulamaibure of Tacirua in Suva was a Year 7 student at the SDA Primary School in Lami at the time.

She was among the small businesses who had a stall at the Garden City Market today.

Vani makes bracelets, earrings and necklaces as well as doing screen printing and baking.

Her mother, Mereseini Bulamaibure says she buys all the materials required and Vani designs the items.

She says Vani has learnt most of the things online.

Bulamaibure says Vani bakes as well and she is even getting cake orders for birthdays and other special occasions.

She says to make sure Vani’s interest in handicraft does not come at the expense of her education they only let her make the items in the weekends.
