Yatu Lau Arcade in Suva to undergo $8 million upgrade

Major upgrade works worth over $8 million will be carried out at the newly re-developed Yatu Lau Arcade, which will commence on the 5th of next month.

Deputy Chairman of Yatu Lau Company Limited, Ratu Meli Saubulinayau made the announcement today and said after months of planning and collaboration, they are moving forward on their plans to upgrade the Yatu Lau Arcade to an iconic shopping destination.

Saubulinayau says the re-development will include the modernising of the facilities, enhancing the retail, dining and other service options and creating a vibrant and welcoming atmosphere for both residents and atmosphere.

He says they a grateful to the Bank of the South Pacific for their support in providing them with a loan that will enable them to further grow and expand their business.

CEO of the Yatu Lau Company Limited, Ana Delailomaloma says after they advertise their tender of interests, they will review everything, but the first chance will be given to some of their old tenants that are MSMEs.

Delailomaloma says tenants like Vinod Patel, Hot Bread Kitchen, Wing Loo and a few others will continue to operate while the re-development is held and others have been given a week to clear their space before the work starts.

She further says they have re-branded their 3 hotels which are the Yatu Lau Talent Conference Room, Yatu Lau Lagoon Resort and soon they will be upgrading their new Yatu Lau Transit Hotel in Nadi and the Sunia Cama cafe in Toorak.

Yatu Lau Company board member and CEO of the iTaukei Trust Fund Board, Aisake Taito also shares how the people of Lau will benefit from the upgrades the company is working on.

Taito says they are focusing on renovating the arcade, after the upgrade, they will get the new tenants in and lock the contract based on the space allocated to them and also bring in other businesses that will meet their objective to make sure the new arcade is a family meeting spot where its also a one-stop shop.
