The World Bank is currently negotiating a $50 million emergency budget support allocation with the Fijian government.

World Bank Director for the Pacific, Franz Dress‑Gross said the negotiations on the emergency budget support allocation started last week.

He said this should initially support and reimburse the government for some of the additional expenditure it had over the last few weeks, particularly in making social transfer payments to vulnerable people post Cyclone Winston.

Dress-Gross has given Fiji a positive rating in ensuring there is transparency in the management of the loan facility it receives.

A significant aspect of Fiji’s recent re‑engagement with the World Bank was the signing of a $102.72 million loan facility in April.

Dress‑Gross said the loan facility given to the Fijian government in April will be channelled through contracts by the Fiji Roads Authority.
