Women make over 60% of all online abuse reports received in Fiji.

This has been highlighted by Minister for Women, Children and Social Protection Sashi Kiran during the Young Women’s Forum on Technology-Facilitated Gender-Based Violence.

Kiran emphasises that this is not random harassment, adding it is cyberbullying, non-consensual image sharing, digital stalking, and hate speech designed to silence, intimidate, and push young women out of public life.

She further stresses that for young leaders, entrepreneurs, and activists, these attacks are destroying confidence and stifling the very voices that need to be heard.

Meanwhile, UNFPA Director Bidisha Pillai stresses the importance of the conversations parents need to be having with their children.

She urges that frontline services and justice systems must be strengthened and adequately resourced to enable survivors to seek and access justice.
