Women working as cashiers in supermarkets have the right to ask their management for a stool to sit on if they feel tired.
This is the call from the Ministry of Labour after Fijivillage posed the question in relation to OHS issues involving the cashiers.
Director Occupational Health Services Isimeli Tuivaga said management should understand that standing up for hours is a health risk, especially for pregnant women.
Fijivillage also raised the issue of some cashiers not able to raise the issue with the management because of fear of victimization but Tuivaga said workers cannot be terminated for this.
He is calling on management to discuss this issue and work out a solution with the workers.
