Who said it is the norm?

That is the comment of Prime Minister, Sitiveni Rabuka when asked on why one of the Deputy Prime Ministers is not the Acting Prime Minister while Rabuka is away in Australia this week.

Some people have raised the question, saying that has been the norm.

Rabuka has appointed People's Alliance Party Deputy Leader, Ro Filipe Tuisawau as Acting Prime Minister.

When questioned by fijivillage News, Rabuka quoted Section 92 subsection 4 of the Constitution.

It states that the Prime Minister shall appoint a Minister to act in the office of the Prime Minister during any period, or during all periods, when the Prime Minister is absent from duty or from Fiji or is, for any other reason, unable to perform the functions of office, and a notification of the appointment of the Acting Prime Minister must be published in the Gazette.
