Suspended Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho

Following suspended Police Commissioner Sitiveni Qiliho’s conviction today, questions are now being asked on what will now happen to his position.

Acting Chief Justice Salesi Temo has found Qiliho guilty of one count of abuse of office while former Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has been found guilty of one count of attempt to pervert the course of justice in the same case.

Prime Minister and the Chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission, Sitiveni Rabuka had earlier said that pursuant to section 137(3)(a)(i) of the Constitution, the Commission considered and made a resolution on the membership of the Tribunal to investigate allegations of misbehaviour against Qiliho.

We are currently trying to get comments from the Prime Minister, Attorney General Siromi Turaga and Minister for Home Affairs Pio Tikoduadua.
