What are you trying to change in the 2013 Constitution: Ketan Lal asks Govt

Opposition member Ketan Lal is questioning the Government on what exactly are they trying to change in the 2013 Constitution or are they simply looking to consolidate power in their hands at the expense of the very freedom they promised to protect.

While responding to President Ratu Naiqama Lalabalavu’s opening address in Parliament, Lal says this government has failed to deliver on its election promises, leaving the people of Fiji frustrated and delusional.

He says the people of Fiji deserve transparency, not just empty promises and power grabs.

He adds this reckless ambition to amend the 2013 Constitution must be met with the strongest opposition, and the people of Fiji will not be fooled, and they, the representatives, will stand firm in defence of the people's rights.

The independent MP says the Coalition Government kept blaming the past, but the real issues were ignored.

He says the de-registered FijiFirst Party left a platform for sustained development, ready-to-execute infrastructure plans, economic road maps and sectorial reforms but instead of building on this, the Coalition Government chose to rewrite history and dismantle the progress.

Lal also called on the Minister for Public Works to show evidence of his work because infrastructure received one of the biggest budget allocations.

Lal also gave a message to Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka that the greatest danger to our democracy is not the voice that shouts in disagreement.

He says complacency is the enemy of progress, and if they stay silent and look away, injustice will thrive.
