We will sort something out for nurses in the upcoming budget - Dr Fong

Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr. James Fong

The Ministry of Health will be able to sort something out for the nurses in the upcoming budget.

Permanent Secretary for Health, Dr James Fong highlighted this in regards to concerns being raised by the Fiji Nurses Association last week about the number of nurses leaving the country due to low salaries and the quality of support provided to them by the Ministry of Health from COVID-19 until today.

Dr Fong adds the Ministry has met with nursing stakeholders including the Fiji Nurses Association.

He says a working group involving all related government ministries and nursing stakeholders will be formulating proposals to be submitted to appropriate budget forums over the next week.

Dr Fong says that whatever they do they have to maintain the aspirations of all parties concerned.

The Permanent Secretary adds the Health Ministry will also be meeting with the Ministry of Civil Service to discuss this a bit more.
