We have triumphed over tragic situations before and 2021 will be no different - Prasad

National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad

National Federation Party Leader Professor Biman Prasad says we have triumphed over tragic situations in our nation before and 2021 will be no different.

While giving his New Year’s message, Prasad has requested Fijians to remain hopeful, optimistic and fearless when faced with adversity.

Prasad says we are facing the most challenging times as an independent nation and this is the worst economic performance in our history with massive unemployment, reduced wages, and reduction in working hours.

The NFP Leader says any government has a moral obligation to ensure any adverse impact of any economic disaster or natural disaster does not totally destroy the livelihood of its citizens but they also understand that no government can do everything alone.

He says it needs the support and cooperation from citizens’ advisory groups, NGOs, civil society, academics and professionals in every field.

Prasad adds at the same time, a government must not hesitate to harness all the talent and become an effective and powerful force in tackling and overcoming any challenge no matter how insurmountable it may seem to be.

He says it is still not too late for government to change course, embrace bipartisanship and harness the talent that is in abundance in our nation to achieve solutions through dialogue, consensus building and negotiation.
