We have provided enough funding for police to fill all the positions- Professor Prasad

We have provided enough funding for the police to fill all the positions.

This was highlighted by Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance Professor Biman Prasad when questioned on the police budget, and the need for more action to be taken to curb the drug issue and crimes, especially in towns and cities.

Professor Prasad says they haven't taken away any vacant positions but have added and beefed up the police patrol and police visibility as they believe that police presence will lead to prevention.

He says they have also made some specific allocations for police visibility.

When questioned on increased funding for RFMF the Finance Minister says this is based on determining the nature of work that RFMF does and their requirements.

He also says that the Minister for Home Affairs is working very closely with the RFMF and Fiji Police to ensure that the resources they are provided are enough for them to undertake the responsibilities which they are required to do.
