Minister for Economy, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says they have not debunked every single report of the Office of the Auditor-General as there are some that are good but there are some that have flaws in it while SODELPA MP, Aseri Radrodro says it is sad to see that the Government is refuting the work of the Auditor-General because there may be loopholes in the processes undertaken.

Sayed-Khaiyum says Radrodro is on one hand quoting bible verses about accountability and on the other hand, their side supports the shenanigans going on at the University of the South Pacific.

He says the Opposition does not want to hold people accountable but they have the audacity to pontificate to them about accountability.

Sayed-Khaiyum says it is their job as Members of Parliament to be able to speak freely on these matters.

Aseri Radrodro says the reports of the Office of the Auditor General are pretty much spot on.

He says the Government should use the Office of the Auditor General’s reports to better their performance so that the next time they get audited by the Office, there might actually be a report on the improvements on how the Government is doing its work.

Radrodro says as recommended by the Public Accounts Committee, the Government should ensure that the Ministries giving out grants need to ensure that the Office of the Auditor General audits those entities receiving grants to ensure compliance to best public financial practices as it is crucial that any form of corruption is eliminated totally.

Radrodro added in Parliament that he is optimistic that the public service will get better and it has to because when SODELPA is governing next year, they will ensure that there is an environment of compliance, trust and growth.
