We have no desire to do anything illegal – People’s Alliance

The People's Alliance says it has no desire whatsoever to do anything illegal following another complaint filed against the party by FijiFirst General Secretary, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum regarding it’s fundraising flyers and activities.

While responding to the FijiFirst, the PA says perhaps Sayed Khaiyum needs to explain what they are so scared about.

In a statement the People’s Alliance says the FijiFirst sets the rules, and now when the rest of the political parties are following those rules, why are they jumping up and down.

It also says that it is not lost on the People's Alliance that this has been the second public attack against their fundraising efforts by the General Secretary of the FijiFirst who is also the Attorney General, Minister for Elections among others, in the space of three weeks.

The party says given that the Supervisor of Elections has yet to respond to Sayed-Khaiyum's first public attack, one has to wonder about the real motives of the FijiFirst General Secretary.

The People’s Alliance asks if he really is after a response from the Supervisor of Elections, or is he desperately trying to build a case for more sinister and ulterior motives.

It also says a question that both men need to answer is, what is the difference between fundraising in the general elections of 2014, 2018 and now 2022.

The People’s Alliance says the FijiFirst raised over $6 million, SODELPA raised $1.3 million, the National Federation Party $600,000 and Unity Fiji $83,000 in the 2018 general elections. It asks what is the problem now with the FijiFirst.
