People in Fiji cannot walk into this digital world blindly, and they must equip and arm themselves with digital systems that are aware of scamming platforms.
This was shared by the Permanent Secretary for the Ministry of Trade, Shaheen Ali, at the Grand Pacific Hotel during the Scams Awareness Workshop.
Ali says fear must not stop people from learning and discovering more about the digital world.
He says the growing impact of scams continues to torture and dismantle people in our society, as their savings are compromised and dreams shattered when they fall victim to scams.
Ali adds that digital literacy is now part of our lives, and if we do not adapt to these changes, then digital convenience will come at a cost.
He further says that as Fiji enters a new phase of development, people need to be ready and adapt to these transitions.
Ali says the older generation are migrants to the digital space and are the most vulnerable when it comes to scams.
The PS says people should familiarise themselves with technology and have the creativity and energy to combat scams.
