Health Minister, Dr. Ifereimi Waqainabete says they are assisting families on a case by case basis and cannot as a blanket rule change the policy for mortuary cost as it is locked under the schedule of fees.

He stated this after SODELPA MP, Ro Filipe Tuisawau asked whether the Ministry of Health has plans to assist families in terms of mortuary and funeral cost as this is one of the main issues raised by those affected and given the increasing number of deaths of not only elderly people but also mothers and a baby.

Dr. Waqainabete says some Fijians may have passed away and their families are in isolation.

He says they are talking to families on a case by case basis depending on the challenges that may be in place.
