We are working through the Secretariat of COC to respond to SOE - Rabuka

Prime Minister Sitiveni Rabuka says they are working through the Secretariat of the Constitutional Offices Commission to compile their response to the Supervisor of Elections Ana Mataiciwa after she filed a complaint against FICAC Commissioner Barbara Malimali on November 28th.

When questioned by fijivillage News, Rabuka says commenting on the issues is beyond their job description as COC and the Prime Minister.

Mataiciwa’s allegations against Malimali relate to office abuse, intimidation, and harassment of witnesses.

Last Friday, Mataiciwa revealed that she was only prompted to lodge the complaint against the FICAC Commissioner after she received Notices from the Secretary to the Constitutional Offices Commission, Ropate Green and the Office of the Chief Registrar on 8th November 2024 and 19th November 2024 respectively.

When questioned by fijivillage News, Mataiciwa says the Constitutional Offices Commission requested that the Supervisor of Elections provide a response to a complaint from the Electoral Commission, which referred to a complaint from Malimali on allegations of aiding and abetting her arrest.

The Chief Registrar's Office requested Mataiciwa and two other staff, all legal practitioners, to provide a response to a complaint by Malimali for allegations of professional misconduct.

Mataiciwa says given that there is currently an active case on Malimali being investigated by CID, in which Mataiciwa is a primary witness, the actions of Malimali in lodging a barrage of complaints to different authorities are proof of alleged intimidation and harassment.

The Fijian Elections Office says this is why the Supervisor wrote to the Acting Commissioner of Police to bring to his attention the appalling alleged actions of the FICAC Commissioner.

Mataiciwa confirms Malimali has lodged complaints against her and members of her team to various authorities including the Electoral Commission, the Office of the Chief Registrar and the Commissioner of Police making false accusations.
