The Ministry of Health is currently in talks with the Ministry of Rural and Maritime Development on identifying solar powered mortuaries for Vunisea.

Minister for Health Dr Atonio Lalabalavu highlighted this to fijivillage News after the people of Kadavu raised concerns on the Vunisea Hospital Mortuary.

The people of Kadavu say the Vunisea Mortuary has not been operational since 2022 and they have to bury their dead on the same day and are not able to carry out full funeral rites.

Dr Lalabalavu says the issue with Vunisea is not only the electrical issues but also the compressor.

He says he has been briefed by the Medical Officer Eastern that the parts should be coming soon.
