Our mandate is to protect, promote and preserve the interest of the Fiji private sector, business, employers and in totality our economy to ensure resilience and sustainability with continued growth.

The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation stated this as the National Private Sector Organisation and Fiji’s Voice of the Private Sector have been actively engaged in discussions on various issues of interest around the Employment Relations Advisory Board, proposed Wages Council, and Labour Mobility.

They say on the matter of the proposed wages council this is acceptable if due process is followed and in the instance of labour mobility which is a global issue, FCEF are in active discussion with the relevant ministries and authorities to raise issues that employers have been facing.

The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation says given that these issues have become a topical discussion point especially with regards to labour mobility, FCEF would like to reassure its membership and the private sector at large, that they are working in collaboration with Government and key stakeholders on these issues.

They say it is vital that a solution-oriented approach is taken that not only addresses the issues but offers solutions that allows for a more systematic approach in ensuring a sustainable way forward.

The Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation is represented on the Employment Relations Advisory Board by five well versed professionals in the areas of industrial relations, human resources, and business, who effectively put the position of employers on the table to protect the interest of the greater private sector.

The Federation says in light of the issues on skill shortages and loss of skilled workers, they believe that this is a more systemic issue that has to be addressed through effective collaboration between Private Sector, Government, Education Sector, and other key partners.

It has been a growing issue that’s escalated with the more laxed restriction on cross border travel, despite the challenges it has raised, addressing it in its entirety is not a short-term fix.

FCEF has conducted talanoa sessions with the Immigration Department, engaged in the work with Ministry of Education and Higher Education Commission on the review of the TVET policy, development of the skills council, and participating at the National Economic Summit.

They say submissions to the national budget and the national economic summit have also outlined key areas of concern with regards to these matters, that have been brought up through consultations at the FCEF council meetings, where updates are also provided on the status of the work they do.

The Federation actively engages with its membership on issues that bring about impacts on the ease and cost of doing business.

Consultation is vital and the Federation at its best will ensure that due process is followed when we bring matters of concern to the relevant authorities.

The Fiji private sector and FCEF membership can be rest assured that as part of its strategy, FCEF will act as the Voice of The Private Sector in amplifying its needs by working and corresponding effectively, efficiently and professionally with Government, partners and stakeholders and do what is best for the economic growth of the country.

Fiji Commerce & Employers Federation says they will protect, promote and preserve the interest of private sector, business, employers and in totality our economy to ensure resilience and sustainability.
