Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete.

Health Minister Dr Ifereimi Waqainabete says they are fully aware of the threats outside our border with the Omicron variant moving with haste throughout the globe.

While opening the SWOT Analysis Workshop On COVID-19 Emergency Response, Dr Waqainabete says what we know now is that it is more transmissible and it can escape our immunity, but there is more to learn about it.

He says they have been told that it will overtake the Delta variant.

The Health Minister adds with the declining numbers, the imminent threat of Omicron and a probability of a natural disaster, we cannot and we must not let our guards down, therefore we must push on for the prosperity of our people.

Dr Waqainabete says the decision to move to mitigation phase was crucial.

He further says the results of their decisions have come to fruition with our current low numbers, relaxation of stringent COVID-19 measures that were being implemented, allowance on movements which will allow Fijians to spend Christmas and New Year with their family and friends.
