Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad

Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for Finance, Professor Biman Prasad says as the Prime Minister has said, all the final details relating to the total expenses and sponsors for the National Economic Summit will be made public.

Professor Prasad says right now they are focused on having a very successful summit.

He says the response is overwhelming and he thanks everyone for their support and eagerness to participate.

They already have 500 people registered for the summit that will be held at Grand Pacific Hotel tomorrow and Friday.

Meanwhile Fiji Labour Party Leader, Mahendra Chaudhry is asking who are the sponsors of the summit as the danger in not disclosing the names is that such sponsorships could be perceived as political donations made to influence the outcome of the Summit.

Chaudhry has raised this question as he says from a transparency view-point alone, the Finance Minister must disclose the names and amounts donated by the sponsors.

He says we are now told that the summit has attracted significant financial sponsorship of over $150,000, and he wants to know who they are and how much they have paid.
