Thousands of people who rely on the Tamavua Reservoir for water supply were either without water supply last night or facing irregular water supply and the Water Authority of Fiji is yet to confirm the cause of the problem or when water supply will normalise for these affected residents.

Some residents we have spoken to last night have told us that they have been without water since Sunday and yesterday morning.

They say there has been irregular water supply since Saturday.

Residents who have called the Water Authority of Fiji customer service line say they have been told that WAF teams are currently carrying out repairs to two pumps that service the Tamavua Reservoir.

Others were told the reservoir level is low and production levels were low.

They say they have also been told that debris has blocked the strainers at the reservoir.

Prabha Singh who lives along Princes Road near Kundan Singh Supermarket says there has been intermittent water supply in their area since Sunday.

She says she is in a group chat with other residents from Lovoni Road and those residents have said they are also without water.

Singh adds they stopped receiving water last night.

Mr Singh of Lakeba Street said last night there has been no water since this morning.

He says they are lucky that they had some water stored but like other residents in the area, they are all buying drinking water which has become an added expense overnight.

We have asked the Water Authority of Fiji.

They are yet to respond.

At 12.49 on Monday in a post on its official Facebook page, the Water Authority of Fiji told people that the Tamavua Reservoir is experiencing low levels of production.

It did not specify what was causing the low levels of production or when customers could expect water supply to normalise.

WAF only said that people in elevated areas along Princes Road, Wailoku, Sakoca, Upper Khalsa Road, Nailuva, elevated parts of Rewa Street, Delainavesi, Qauia Street, Navikinikini Settlement, Panoramic, Uduya Point, Waiqanake, Osonabukete, Ben Naiveli, Namadi Heights, elevated areas along Princes Road including Bureta and upper Samabula Area would be affected.

The Facebook post by WAF also advised people in the affected areas to store sufficient amounts of water to last them for at least 2 to 3 days, when it is available.

You can call 1507 or 5777 to ask for a water carting truck to come to your area.
